Cadet Portal
The new Cadet Portal is due to go live for Essex squadrons this coming Monday 2nd December.
We have been going through a process of requesting updated contact information so that cadets will be e-mailed login information for the cadet portal on that day.
Whichever e-mail address is stored against a cadet will be sent a welcome e-mail on Monday.
If no e-mail is received on Monday, please check your "SPAM" folder in case it has been directed in there. If it still isn't found, it may be that we have the e-mail address incorrectly and they should let us know as soon as possible.
In the mean time, there are a couple of videos that have been produced by the development team for cadets and parents alike.
We strongly suggest cadets to take the time to watch the cadet briefing video (28 minutes long!) and that parents watch at least the briefing for parents (2 minutes long!)

CWC & Squadron Association Special Meeting - Thu 16th May 7pm @ Squadron HQ
URGENT/IMPORTANT
To all parents/guardians/carers of 2393 cadets..
As you know one of the most important events of the year for
our Squadron, the Stock Flower Festival (21st-23rd June
2019), is fast approaching and the time is now to make our plans firm in order
to support our cadets to the best of our ability. The Stock Flower Festival is
an event thoroughly enjoyed by all the cadets and which develops them and
teaches them a great deal.
Therefore, the significance of the event calls for a special
meeting to confirm our plans and seek your support. Your help will be greatly
appreciated in any format and duration it can be offered, be it in preparation
for or during the event.
Please be invited to our next Squadron Committee Meeting on
Thursday 16th May, 7pm at the ATC Squadron, during which we intend
to plan our activities for the Stock Flower Festival.
Looking forward to seeing you all there.
Kind regards,
Marina Hallworth, Chair

Dining-in, Enrolment & Presentation Evening 2019
Our annual dining-in, enrolment and presentation evening will be held at Squadron HQ, Laindon Road on Saturday 9th March.
Cadets will be bringing home an invite letter.
As we have a much bigger squadron this year we are having to limit initial allocations to 2 guests per cadet. Further places may be available if not all are taken up in the initial phase.
Please see the invite letter & request form for details.
A copy of the invite letter can be found here: Dining-In 2019 Invite Letter
Initial returns are requested no later than Friday 15th February
Apologies for the short turn-around time, but we only received confirmation of availability of the venue very recently and given the two-phase approach to guest place allocation this year, we must move quickly!

AEF Saturday 02 FEB 19
The 5AEF answer machine message states that morning flying has been cancelled, however, no decision has yet been made on afternoon flying.
This means you will still need to travel to Hutton Squadron as briefed.
There is the potential that you might start your journey only to be turned-around en-route. Or... you might still get some flying !!

Our Recent Successes
After a very busy weekend of the South Sector Drill Competition and Inter-Squadron Swimming Competition I am very happy to announce the following successes.
Banner Drill - 1st in South Sector
Our Banner Team will now go forward to the Essex Wing finals this weekend.
Swimming:
Cdt Goodwin - 1st junior boys breaststroke
Cdt Mitchell - 3rd senior girls backstroke and freestyle
The points gained from these medals meant we came:
3rd in Essex Wing for junior boys swimming
3rd in Essex Wing for senior girls swimming
This is an excellent achievement for both cadets; Cdt Goodwin will now go to the Inter-Wing competition and represent Essex Air Cadets.
Well done also to Cdt Attridge for his participation in the event, it would have been good to see more of our cadets attending this.

Armed Forces Day
The squadron will be taking part in Armed Forces Day at an event combined with Baslidon and Wickford Squadrons. An event sheet will be placed on the notice board for you to confirm your attendance.
I expect a high level of participation; this is a very significant event especially with the 100th and 70th anniversaries of the beginning of WWI and the end of WWII.

Inter Squadron Athletics
We had an excellent day at the Essex Wing Inter Squadron athletics competitions yesterday with 5 cadets from the squadron participating.
In the senior girls competitions:
Brookes came 5th in the 800m.
Mitchell came 1st in the 100m, 2nd in the 200m and 2nd in the long jump.
These results combined put 2393 5th in Essex Wing for the senior girls category.
In the B boys competitions:
Andrews came 4th in the high jump.
Boyle came 7th in the 800m.
Cpl Donley came 2nd in the discuss, 3rd in the 400m and 4th in the shot put.
And in the C boys competitions:
Wilby came 2nd in the discus.
The achievements were excellent and all go towards 2393's achievement in 2015. There does still need to be more participation from other cadets in the squadron. We had no entry in the A boys category (12-15 age group), which dropped us down the league table significantly. Our squadron has 7 boys who were eligible for the A category; I am hoping for a greater turnout in our next sporting competition, which is the inter squadron swimming. Dates will be advised once advertised.
Very well done to all cadets that participated this year.

DINING IN
DINING IN CLEAR UP
We will require about 5 or 6 cadets to assist clean up on Sunday morning
It will finish no later than 12 noon
Unfortunately, if there are not enough volunteers on Thursday (tomorrow), we will have to clear away everything from the scout hut immediately after dinner, and before the disco. Not an ideal situation
Make sure you check with parents that you can attend on the Sunday morning before offering your services

Process For Reporting Leave
We have had an increase in cadets reporting leave incorrectly. To clarify, if you are absent from a cadet night the following procedure should be adhered to.
1. You know in advance that you will be absent.
ACTION: Fill in a leave of absence form, these are found on the cadet notice board in classroom one. Hand the completed form to a Cadet NCO.
2. You are going to be absent but you've not handed in a leave of absence form.
ACTION: Call the squadron, preferably before 19:30hrs and report your absence. Uniform for the next parade night can then be told to you over the phone. A message can be left on the answering machine if you call before staff arrive.
If the above procedure isn't followed you will be marked as absent without leave.

Cross Country Success
Well done to Cpl Donley, Wilby, Boyle, Waite and Attridge, who attended the inter-squadron cross country today. The results were very pleasing with the Boys B team coming 4th in Essex Wing and Cdt Wilby coming 6th in the Boys B race. As Wilby came in the top 6 in his category, he will be going to the inter-wing cross country early next year to represent Essex against other Wings in the London and South East Region.
Well done to all who took part, however yet again PARTICIPATION is the word I want everyone to think about. As a squadron we stand a far higher chance to achieve even more if we have full teams of cadets to put forward at these events. We can only achieve this if you participate in these competitions.

Most of these children will have never received a Christmas present in their lifetime. More information about the charity can be found on their website.
We are encouraging each cadet to decorate a shoebox and fill it with appropriate gifts. Boxes can contain any of the following:

- Toothbrushes
- Toothpaste

Boxes need to be handed into the squadron by 13 NOV.
We will also be attending a shoe box packing morning on 15 NOV. Any volunteers for this activity will be appreciated.

Dress Standards
It came to the attention of the Commandant Air Cadets whilst she was visiting The Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) of some major breaches in dress regulations:
1. A female cadet was seen wearing a tongue bar
2. Another female cadet was seen with bright blue hair
Both these points go against our dress regulation policy and having been displayed in such a public environment has prompted to Corps Warrant Officer to re-enforce our standards of dress to all.
Although neither of these cadets were from our squadron, you all need to remember that you have no idea who sees you in the public eye and that whilst in uniform you are representing the image of the Royal Air Force.
You all have various points to improve on after our last uniform inspection earlier in the month. I want to see a significant improvement from all cadets by the next inspection. Anyone who consistently fails to meet the required standards will loose the right to wear uniform. You have been warned, improve it or loose it.
