Assessed expedition will be 24th (evening) - 27th MAY in the Peak District (Edale)

Lists are up on the notice board for you to reserve yourself a place. Questions to either Mr Pether or myself.

Spare camp places to RAF Northolt

Essex Wing have advertised several spare places to the RAF Northolt annual camp taking place on the 03 - 10 APR 2013. Annual camp offers great opportunities to potentially fly, visit and work with sections of the Air Force, shoot No8 and L98A2 weapons and live in the airman's mess. RAF Northolt is also home to 32 (The Royal) Squadron, who are responsible for the transport of high ranking officers, key members of the government and the royal family.

Should you want to take up this opportunity then you need to come and see me ASAP, as places will go very quickly.

Practice Silver Expedition Cancelled

Unfortunately Mr Pether and myself have had to take the decision to cancel the expedition to Edale this weekend. This is due to safety concerns caused by the current and forecast weather conditions, which are as follows:

  1. Snow fall forecast in Edale for the Mon to Fri
  2. High winds resulting in very low wind chill
  3. Reduced visibility from fresh snow fall and snow being blown over land
  4. Average day time temp of just above 0 and night time temp as low as -7
Our aim is still to offer cadets an opportunity to get their silver D of E this year, so don't worry about not being able to achieve this. However as instructors we want to offer this in the safest possible conditions, which will make it more enjoyable for yourselves.

As such the kit check on Tuesday is also cancelled. A post will be put on the blog to advise uniform when we have arranged an alternative activity.

Edale Silver D of E

Please find a kit list for download here:

There will be a kit check on Tuesday, ensure you pack early so that you have everything in place for this check. Cadets who are missing kit might be removed from the camp.

Don't go buying loads of expensive kit, we will be able to provide back packs, sleeping bags and mats. We do also have a limited number of gas stoves we can lend, however now you are at the Silver D of E level we are expecting you to have your own stoves really.

Air Cadet Wings Lotto

A few months ago we posted information about the RAFA Air Cadet Wings Lotto. This is a weekly lottery organised by the Royal Air Force Association (RAFA). News from the organisation is that to date the lotto has been a success and they hope that support for this will continue to expand.

Signing up for the RAFA Lotto directly benefits the squadron as we get a percentage of each ticket purchase. They can't match the prizes of the National Lotto, however they do provide an increased chance of winning.

The top weekly prize is £1,000 with an additional prize that can roll-over up to a maximum of £10,000. If you are interested in signing up please click on the link below and choose to support '2393 BILLERICAY' when asked to select your ACO Squadron.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

All cadets are to check their uniform pockets and bags for the key to building 2. If you are in possession of this then it's highly important you return it to the squadron at the earliest opportunity.
